Here at talkSPORT.com we think we’ve found 10 things you may well be surprised to know about the man Arsenal could be about to sign. 1. As a youngster, Perisic helped out on his fathers chicken farm. In 2006, with the farm struggling, he forced a move to French side Sochaux which enabled his father to save it.Leaving for Sochaux was best for the family at the time, Ante Perisic told the Slobodna Dalmacija newspaper. I wanted them to move away from me and my suffering.2. On the books at Sochaux he won the Coupe Gambardella (an Under-19 cup competition) but never played for their senior side. Although he did feature for their B team.3. After spending a loan to Roselaere in 2009, he returned to Belgium for the 2009/10 season by joining Club Brugge for just 250,000 where he starred in a side which included ex-Tottenham youngster Jonathan Blondel, and former West Brom defenders Carl Hoefkens and Ryan Donk.7

4. The next season he was top scorer in the Belgian top flight and won their Player of the Year award.5. Before making his Croatia debut in 2011, Perisic claimed he would collect stray balls in training just to get the chance to play alongside Niko Kranjcar and Luka Modric.7

6. After joining Borussia Dortmund, Perisic made his debut for the club off the bench in a 3-1 home victory over Hamburg in 2011. The player he replaced was current Huddersfield Town star Christopher Lowe.7. Perisic enjoyed some excellent moments at Dortmund, including a stunning goal against Arsenal in the Champions League, but he eventually fell out with Jurgen Klopp.7

After being frustrated by a lack of opportunities he spoke to the media but Klopp shot back: Public whining belongs to kindergarten, not to the world of adults. If he doesnt play, a football professional should shut his mouth, work hard and make the coach select him not complain about it to the reporters. He was sold in 2013 to Wolfsburg.7

8. Perisic won the German Cup (DFB-Pokal) at Wolfsburg alongside Kevin De Bruyne and Norwich City centre-back Timm Klose – gaining revenge against Klopp with a 3-1 win over Borussia Dortmund in 2015.7

9. Even though Croatia were eliminated from World Cup 2014 after just three games, Perisic was named the second best player of the group stage by FIFA Castrol Index, with only eventual Golden Boot winner James Rodrguez ahead of him.7

10. In 2017, Perisic took part in the Porec Major tournament on the International Volleyball Federation Beach World Tour. He and his professional partner Niksa DellOrco were given a wildcard entry but lost their first game to Brazilian duo lvaro Morais Filho and Saymon Barbosa.
