Liverpool transfer news: Reds face competition from PSG and Borussia Dortmund for Ajax winger David Neres
Liverpool are chasing Ajax winger David Neres ahead of the summer transfer window, reports claim.The once-capped Brazil international has been in fine form for Ajax this season, which has alerted the Reds, as well as Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund.1He has contributed to 26 goals for the Dutch champions in all competitions, scoring 11 and creating a further 15.Le10Sport claim Liverpool have an expressed an interest in Neres, but are yet to submit a bid for him.However, Borussia Dortmund are believed to have offered 40million for his services, while PSG are monitoring the 22-year-old’s progression.The youngsters talent was on show when he scored in Ajaxs 4-1 win over Real Madrid to knock them out of the Champions League last month.

Remember them? Deportivo are currently in the second tier of Spanish football but once upon a time they were one of Europe’s best sides.And arguably their best moment on a European stage saw them knock out holders AC Milan in a quarter-final tie in April 2004 after overturning a 4-1 deficit from the first leg at the San Siro.In Spain, however, Deportivo wiped out Milan’s lead in the first-half of the second leg with goals from Birmingham flop Walter Pandiani, Juan Carlos Valeron and Newcastle flop Albert Luque.9Gonzalo Fran got the decisive goal after the break to secure the famous win but Deportivo were knocked out in the semis by a Porto side managed by a certain Jose Mourinho.

Chelsea 4-1 (agg 5-4) Napoli

Chelsea’s journey to their first and to date only Champions League triumph was a memorable one and you could say it was kick-started by this incredible comeback against a dangerous Napoli side in March 2012.They lost the first leg 3-1 at the Stadio San Paolo with Andre Villas-Boas in charge but this proved to be one of the Portuguese’s last games in charge of the club.Chelsea were a different side at Stamford Bridge with Roberto di Matteo the new boss and went 2-0 up thanks to goals from Didier Drogba and John Terry but Gokhan Inler pulled one back.Frank Lampard’s penalty sent the tie into extra-time and then Branislav Ivanovic produced a finish any striker would be proud of to put Chelsea through. Mega-comebacks have happened during this season’s Champions League too as Cristiano Ronaldo’s hat-trick inspired Juventus to a heroic win over Atletico Madrid in the last-16.Juve were trailing 2-0 going into the second leg against a team notoriously difficult to break down but Ronaldo had other ideas and almost single handedly sent his former rivals crashing out as the Old Lady won 3-0.9However, Ronaldo and co. were knocked out at the next stage by a youthful Ajax, losing the tie in their own back yard.

Barcelona 5-1 (agg 6-4) Chelsea

Chelsea missed out on a semi-final place in the Champions League in 2000 as Rivaldo scored two goals to help Barcelona win a topsy-turvy tie.The Blues won the first leg 3-1 at Stamford Bridge and were in a great position when Tore Andre Flo’s 60th-minute strike got them ahead on aggregate after Rivaldo and Luis Figo put Barca 2-0 up on the night.However, Dani Garcia’s goal took the tie to extra-time and a penalty from Rivaldo as well as Patrick Kluivert’s goal put the tie to bed.9

Paris Saint-Germain 1-3 (agg 3-3) Manchester United

It was only a two-goal deficit Manchester United overturned but it was a truly excellent win against a Paris Saint-Germain side who looked far too good in the first leg at Old Trafford.Trailing 2-0 on aggregate at the Parc-des-Princes, United went for their opponents and two goals from Romelu Lukaku either side of Juan Bernat’s strike gave the visitors a great shout.And Marcus Rashford’s stoppage-time penalty amazingly sent the Red Devils through to the quarter-finals even if the spot-kick was awarded rather fortuitously.

Roma 3-0 (agg 4-4) Barcelona

If any game is going to encourage Liverpool fans the most then it’s this one as Barcelona blew a three-goal lead they had only last year.They were in the driving seat after winning their quarter-final first leg match at home to Roma 4-1.But the Serie A side came roaring back and goals from Edin Dzeko, Daniele De Rossi and Kostas Manolas saw Roma win 3-0 and go through on away goals.9

Ahead of Championship leaders Leeds‘ visit to Nottingham Forest on New Year’s day, talkSPORT.com looks at the time United signed Leicester’s Gary McAliister, getting one over on former manager Brian Clough in the process.Leeds?! he said, then the phone went down quite abruptly.”And that was how McAllister’s conversation with Forest’s legendary manager Brian Clough ended when he informed him of his decision to join Howard Wilkinson’s Leeds instead in 1990.3According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds initial 850,000 bid was rejected by the Foxes, which had initially put Forest in the driving seat for the player’s signature, but McAllister didn’t want to go to the City Ground apparently he wasn’t too impressed with Forest’s supremo.The story goes that Cloughie, who spent 44 days as Leeds manager in 1974, was close to signing the midfielder, but after turning up late to a meeting with the player, spotted his cowboy boots and asked a series of pointed questions about his private life.3“It was bad timing. Looking back, Id have loved to play under Clough in his pomp, but I had options and just felt Leeds were a better fit. Brian wasnt impressed when I said I was going to Leeds,” McAllister told Four Four Two about his decision to move to Elland Road.A tribunal eventually set his transfer fee at 1m and Leeds were soon in the ascendancy, with McAllister signing up for their first season back in the top division after eight years away.And just to make sure he got his man, United chairman Bill Fotherby actually tracked McAllister down to a golf course in Leicester to convince him to sign on the spot.They were making a real statement of intent.Replacing Vinnie Jones with Gary Macca, the club now had genuine class in the middle along withGordon Strachan and academy products Gary Speed and David Batty. It’s a quartet that has been greatly celebrated in the years since. I knew there was a player there that I could learn off both on and off the pitch, the Liverpool legend said about the man who now his assistant at Rangers.Promoted as winners of Division Two, McAllister got to work straight away as Leeds finished fourth in his first season and helped Lee Chapman score a career-best 21 league goals. Wilkinson was building a team capable of becoming champions of England and they realised the dream in 1992; the final season before the Premier League’s formation.3The decision to choose Wilkinson over Cloughie was vindicated. I came to Leeds with the expectation of winning things, he said after the league triumph. Four or five good draws and youre well down the line. But a full season, against 21 clubs as it was back then, is the true test or skill sets, of endurance and consistency.
