The England international’s performances had been questioned in those two matches, against Chelsea and Arsenal, both of which Spurs failed to win.He scored a calamitous own-goal in the 2-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge, before Gunners winger Alex Iwobi gave him a torrid time in the 1-1 draw at Wembley on Saturday. Pochettino also announced that Dele Alli has returned to first-team training.Alli is in the final stages of his recovery from a hamstring injury, but does not travel to Germany with the rest of the squad.Harry Winks and Eric Dier do travel, and both men will be assessed ahead of the game.Meanwhile, Spurs boss Pochettino insists his team will look to win the game on Tuesday, rather than protect their 3-0 lead.“We need to play like always we play, trying to win, that is important,” he said.“We need to forget the first leg, it’s important to be aggressive, fight from the beginning, high tempo, that is going to be the key.“We know Borussia Dortmund is a great team, top of the Bundesliga because they deserve to be there.“It’s going to be tough. They will start game aggressive and try to push us deeper.“We need to show the same aggressiveness, play our way. Winning 3-0 at Wembley is not important tomorrow.”

Aberdeen 2-4 Rangers: Alfredo Morelos scores twice and is sent off as Gers claim victory in six-goal thriller
Alfredo Morelos saw red against Aberdeen for the third time this season but not before firing the double which helped Rangers to a drama-filled 4-2 win at Pittodrie. The Colombian gave yet another demonstration of his undoubted talents as he extended his tally for the season to 23 goals with two clinical finishes. But having been sent off on both previous Ladbrokes Premiership encounters with Derek McInnes’ Dons, he let his temper get the better of him once again after getting embroiled in a confrontation with Scott McKenna that saw both men dismissed just after half-time.Morelos and McKenna were both sent off in the game3
Morelos and McKenna were both sent off in the game
Morelos’ earlier indiscretions had proved costly but this time captain James Tavernier tucked home the Gers’ fifth penalty award in two games before a Jermain Defoe strike in stoppage time sealed a precious win that keeps Steven Gerrard’s men six points behind leaders Celtic.McInnes had enjoyed the upper hand on Gerrard in their three previous meetings, with two wins and an opening-day draw. But while Sam Cosgrove also struck twice – one from the spot – the Reds drop five behind their Ibrox rivals. Both sides passed up early chances but it was Morelos who landed the night’s opening blow.Ryan Kent picked up the ball 25 yards out before setting off an a long arching run towards the box. His shot on the angle was well-struck but Joe Lewis succeeded only in parrying it straight to Morelos who tucked home first time.Aberdeen’s response came on the half-hour mark. Rangers were 65 yards from their own goal when Graeme Shinnie robbed Borna Barisic but the Dons were immediately off and running.Tavernier could only head away a Greg Stewart cross but it was fizzed back into the box by Lewis Ferguson. The ball ricocheted off Tavernier and then Connor Goldson before falling perfectly for Cosgrove to roll home.Rangers’ title credentials were now up for question as the home support roared their team on.Morelos scored twice before he was sent off3
Morelos scored twice before he was sent off
But Rangers showed they are not ready to let Celtic race off into the distance and regained their lead seven minutes later.Ryan Jack pushed forward from midfield before finding Kent. The ball was slipped through to Morelos, who produced a sensational finish to find the bottom corner with virtually no backlift. There was a certain inevitability that following the weekend controversy of Gers’ four penalties against St Mirren there would be more spot-kick drama here. But the truth was referee Bobby Madden was left with two of the clearest awards imaginable. The first in the 42nd minute came when McKenna, in the process of claiming offside against Goldson, raised an arm above his head which then blocked the defender’s flick-on.With Tavernier’s place at the head of the Light Blues’ penalty pecking order reiterated, the skipper stepped up to slot Gerrard’s team two in front.Gerrard’s side stayed within six of Celtic3

Their lead was trimmed back three minutes after the restart as Madden was met with another straightforward award as Tavernier bundled over Ferguson as they jostled at a corner and Cosgrove claimed his second by ramming past Allan McGregor. The real flashpoint, however, came in the 54th minute as Morelos and McKenna got their marching orders. The pair had been embroiled in a running battle all night but took things too far when both appeared to kick out at each other on the deck.Morelos was looking to get revenge on the Dons defender for the red card he got for an earlier spat on day one of the season as he threw himself theatrically about the floor, but Madden decided both had to go.Aberdeen threw caution to the wind during seven minutes of stoppage time but the game was up when Tavernier slotted in Defoe for his third Rangers goal.

However, they have refused to do so as the Welsh club want the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) to release all their findings concerning the crash.Nantes, who wrote to Cardiff on February 5 requesting the initial payment, have now lodged a claim with FIFA over the Bluebirds’ refusal.“We can confirm that we have received yesterday evening a claim from FC Nantes against Cardiff City in connection with the transfer of Emiliano Sala,” a FIFA spokesperson said.“We are looking into the matter and consequently we have no further comments at this stage.” Cardiff later released a statement of their own, remaining insistent that the authorities must be allowed to complete their investigation. It read: “Cardiff remain committed to ensuring fairness and accountability with respect to the agreement, but first and foremost the relevant authorities must be allowed to determine the facts surrounding this tragedy. It is inappropriate to comment further at this stage”The AAIB released their interim report apropos the crash earlier this week, with a full report to follow in due course.Investigators are yet to determine what caused the Piper Malibu to come down near Alderney on January 21, though the wreckage was discovered just 30 metres from the aircraft’s final recorded location on radar. This implies the aircraft fell almost vertically from around 1,600ft into the Channel. The plane veered from its planned route before coming down to the west of Alderney2

The full report will also look into the validity of the pilot’s licence as David Ibbotson – who remains missing – only held a licence which allowed him to fly passengers in the European Union on a cost sharing basis, rather than for commercial flights.

Liverpool midfielders slated by Graeme Souness over lack of goals – ‘modern midfielders get away with murder’
Liverpool’s midfielders have been criticised by Anfield great Graeme Souness over their dreadful goal output. With Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain still recovering from the serious injury he suffered last year, Jurgen Klopp has rotated James Milner, Georginio Wijnaldum, Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and Naby Keita in the middle of the park.Keita has struggled during his debut season with Liverpool – and has still not scored for the Reds2
Keita has struggled during his debut season with Liverpool – and has still not scored for the Reds
The majority of that group are defensive-minded players – aside from Keita, who proved himself a fine attacker during his time with RB Leipzig – and Klopp clearly sacrifices attacking threat from deep in favour of a more solid midfield. So far, this lack of goal threat has not affected Liverpool as they remain in the title race, though their recent results – the 5-0 thrashing of Watford aside – raised doubts about where goals will come from if the Reds’ front three of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah are not firing as they usually do.And Souness, writing in his Sunday Times column, believes the aforementioned quintet must do much more in the final third.“Modern midfielders get away with murder,” Souness writes. “They say they ‘recycle’ possession, whatever that means, but youre either a defensive or an attacking midfielder. “If youre the latter, assists are OK, but do you score goals?“Liverpools five midfielders have six league goals between them.“They get away with it because of the front three they have, but its not enough from James Milner, Georginio Wijnaldum, Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and Naby Keita.”Oxlade-Chamberlain scored five goals last season before suffering knee ligament damage in April, proving himself as the most effective attacking player Klopp can name in his central trio.Oxlade-Chamberlain developed into an influential player for Liverpool following his transfer from Arsenal2
Oxlade-Chamberlain developed into an influential player for Liverpool following his transfer from Arsenal
The England international is now nearing a return after 11 months out, and he could feature for Liverpool’s Under-23s over the coming weeks to build up his match fitness before making a long-awaited return to Klopp’s starting line-up.
