Hogan has struggled since joining Villa from Brentford two years ago
His arrival comes after Leon Clarke completed a move away from United, joining Wigan on loan for the rest of the season.Hogan, 26, is yet to score this term after falling out of favour at Villa Park. The Republic of Ireland international’s only start came in the FA Cup defeat to Swansea earlier this month, while he has been restricted to just six appearances off the bench in the Championship. He joined Villa from Brentford in January 2017 for a 9million fee but netted just six times in 37 games last season.Blades boss Chris Wilder has been an admirer of Hogan’s for some time after trying to sign him in 2018.“Scott has been on our radar for quite a while. We tried to do a deal in the summer, but we got knocked back,” said Wilder.“But eventually he’s found his way here and hopefully he can be part of a successful second-half of the season.“I love his background in terms of where he has come from and where he has got to, but he’s been a bit unfortunate at Aston Villa.”Wilder added: “He’s a really good fit for us though, he’s something different to what we’ve already got and his goalscoring record is good.“We believe we’ll create chances for him, but it’s his all-round general play and desire to kickstart his career again that appeals to us.“We’ve recognised what we needed, we’ve had to be patient with targets, such as Kieran (Dowell) and Scott, but I’m delighted with the three players we’ve brought in.“We’ve had a really good January window and we’ve got options at the top of the pitch.”

Liverpool news: Damien Comolli explains how he was sacked for signing captain Jordan Henderson

Liverpool news: Damien Comolli explains how he was sacked for signing captain Jordan Henderson
Former Liverpool director of football Damien Comolli claims signing Jordan Henderson cost him his job.Henderson joined the Reds in a 20million deal from Sunderland in 2011, but struggled for form in his debut season at Anfield.Damien Comolli was Liverpool’s director of football for just 18 monthsGetty3
Damien Comolli was Liverpool’s director of football for just 18 months
However, the 28-year-old midfielder was appointed Liverpool captain in 2015 and has played a crucial part in two Premier League campaigns, including the most recent one where they missed out on the title by a point.Comolli, who was also responsible for signing flops Andy Carroll, Stewart Downing and Charlie Adam, was proven right about Henderson as heis set to lead his side out in a second successive Champions League final when they take on Tottenham on Saturday, LIVE on talkSPORT.When discussing the reasoning behind signing Henderson, Comolli told The Independent: It was a mix of four different factors. The first one, when we looked at his fitness data it was absolutely out of this world. That was very important, to know that he could match the intensity that physically Liverpool should play at.Henderson captained Liverpool in the 2018 Champions League final against Real MadridGetty3
Henderson captained Liverpool in the 2018 Champions League final against Real Madrid
Secondly, when we looked at his technical and tactical data, he was doing things at Sunderland that were as good as some of the top midfielders in the Premier League. The third aspect was live scouting, we all watched him, all came back very enthusiastic about what we saw.And the fourth aspect is the personality. We made a lot of enquiries about what type of individual he was, his behaviour, his obsession for improvement. They talk about marginal gains, with Jordan every day it is how can I improve, how can I gain five per cent of marginal gains? The other aspect of his personality, when you spend a bit of time with him, you can straightaway tell about his leadership skills, his determination, his commitment. Everything you see on the pitch.Jordan Henderson is a key part of Jurgen Klopp’s plansGetty3
Jordan Henderson is a key part of Jurgen Klopp’s plans
Comolli was sacked by Liverpool in April 2012, less than a year after Henderson had joined the club.He added: I remember the day I was sacked, the owners told me, Jordan Henderson what a massive mistake it was. That was about the only thing they told me.Liverpool have had much more success in the transfer market in recent times, signing Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, Alisson and Virgil van Dijk. And Henderson has been vital to Liverpools rise. Comolli added: I am obviously very pleased because Jordan played a key part to what is happening at Liverpool. The second leg of the semi-final [against Barcelona] is just typical Jordan Henderson. The energy he brought to the team, the determination, the commitment, refusing to give up, refusing to lose. So when you put everything together, we were convinced.

The England international broke his ankle and he has since had surgery, but it is uncertain when he will return.Arsenal are therefore eyeing up a move for Schick, who was on their radar before he joined Roma in 2017.The Czech Republic international initially joined the Italian side on loan ahead of a permanent move from Sampdoria this summer for an initial fee of around 17million.Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey, whose contract expires in June, has been touted as a possible makeweight in any deal for Schick. However, according to Corriere dello Sport, the Gunners need to act fast as other clubs are lurking.Crystal Palace, Sevilla and Valladolid are chasing Schick too and can offer the youngster regular first-team football.

Aaron Ramsey to Roma, Patrik Schick to Arsenal - is this possible? There have been past reports that Roma striker, Patrik Schick will be heading to Arsenal on loan in the January transfer window. However, Roma in a recent statement have downplayed the transfer as they hinted that Patrik Schick is going nowhere.

Jose Mourinho returning to Real Madrid would be a mistake, Mauricio Pochettino would give them the shake-up needed
With every passing point that is dropped the most recent a humiliating 2-0 home defeat to Real Sociedad the prospect of SantiagoSolari remaining Real Madrid manager next season grows slimmer and slimmer. The real question is just who will replace him?Sontiago Solari is running out of time at Real Madrid6
Sontiago Solari is running out of time at Real Madrid
The majority of the worlds true elite coaches will likely be unavailable: Jurgen Klopps project at Liverpool is only just starting to reach its potential, Pep Guardiola would rather eat his own shoe than coach Madrid, and Diego Simeone would rather eat both.Nor will there be a feasible option of promoting from within, Solaris struggles showing that Zinedine Zidanes success was to do with the Frenchmans unique talent, not some universal recipe for success in bumping the B-team boss up to the seniors.More than ever, the options are limited, which isnt exactly something the most successful side in European football history are accustomed to.Mourinho won the league and cup as Real Madrid manager6
Mourinho won the league and cup as Real Madrid manager
Under those tricky circumstances, one name just wont go away. The man who Madrid president Florentino Prez never wanted to see leave the Santiago Bernabu in the first place, who also happens to be the man who managed to drag Manchester United to the worst start to a Premier League season in the English clubs history.Less than a month after his Old Trafford departure, reports in the UK suggest Madrid have opened a line of contact with Jose Mourinho.Reports in Portugal suggest they had already done so as far back as October, while he was still in a job and when Madrid were looking for someone to replace Julen Lopetegui.Florentino Perez did not want to lose Mourinho as Real Madrid manager6
Florentino Perez did not want to lose Mourinho as Real Madrid manager
Considering Prezs well-known admiration for the Portuguese coach, who he holds in higher esteem than perhaps any other, its not unfathomable that both stories are accurate.Guardiolas globally admired Barcelona were the scourge of the Madrid president in the early years of his second spell in the Los Blancos top job.Mourinhos feat of beating that team to a La Liga title in the 2011/12 and by extension, knocking the Catalans off their perch, endeared him hugely in the eyes of his employer.Mourinho beat a very dominant Barcelona side, managed by Pep Guardiola, to title glory in 20126
Mourinho beat a very dominant Barcelona side, managed by Pep Guardiola, to title glory in 2012
But while a second coming of Mou fits the personal preferences of Prez, it is difficult to make a case for it being a good idea.Mourinho may have departed the Spanish capital in 2013 with the presidents favour in-tact, but the same could not be said about either the players, nor the supporters. In the case of the latter, the coach became a hugely divisive figure, with some sectors of the Bernabu faithful backing him, and others vehemently opposing him due to his perceived poor treatment of club legend Iker Casillas.Mourinho fell out with Iker Casillas during his time as Real manager6
Mourinho fell out with Iker Casillas during his time as Real manager
Casillas wasnt the only player that Mourinho fell out with, and several more relationships broke down to a standstill by the end of the managers tenure. Some of those footballers are still at the club, their status at Madrid only growing in the time since. Sergio Ramos, by now a Real Madrid legend to rival most, would not welcome a reunion with his old coach. Its no coincidence the defender became visibly annoyed when asked about rumours of a Mourinho return last month, nor that he pointed out that Madrid had won everything in the time since he left. Its not only the impact Mourinho would have on the fans and the dressing room heavyweights that makes his potential return problematic.A change in the way the La Liga sides squad has been built and the kind of transfers they carry out these days also raise questions. The recent arrival of Brahim Daz means Los Blancos now have nine players in their first team squad aged 23 or under. Many of them, like Vinicius Junior (18), Dani Ceballos (22) and Marcos Llorente (23) are hoped to be future starters, and could even end this season in that position. If theres one thing that Mourinhos premature end at Manchester United has taught us, its that he has lost his touch with players.Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino6
Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino
In particular, he lacks an understanding of the younger generation, whose personalities require a different kind of man-management in the age of instant stardom for bright talents.Gone too is his ability to improve blossoming footballers five minutes on the phone with Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial or Marcus Rashford would be enough for Madrids hopes of the future to turn around and run a mile.Theres a far more compelling case to be made for a younger, fresher coach like Mauricio Pochettino to come to Spain and give Madrid the real shake-up they need to launch a new era, and the Argentine could yet be convinced, but circumstance and presidential preference will also play their part.If the phone rings, Mourinho may well consider going back to his former club, but perhaps he should call old mentor Louis van Gaal before deciding.Van Gaal won four trophies in his first spell at the Camp Nou, at the time becoming Barcelonas most successful coach since Johan Cruyff. Two years later he returned for a second bite at the Bara job. He didnt make it past January.
